Controlled Hammer Peening

Hammer peening is the process of cold working metal surfaces to improve the material properties. It expands the surface therefore inducing compressive stresses or relieving compressive stress that is present.

Hammer peening gives a much deeper compressive layer than shot peening or roller burnishing, however the surface treatment gives a rough finish. If a more suitable finish is required, this can be machined afterwards without removing all the compressive layer.

Techman carries out this process on a 10m Hammer Peening machine designed for peening inside diameters of non magnetic materials.
